The Simple Woman's Daybook

The Simple Woman’s Daybook: February 28, 2011

Outside my window. . .gray. The air has been heavy all day. It finally got heavy enough to rain for a little while.

I am thinking. . .about the week my family has ahead. It’s my dad’s birthday, and though I try not to linger on his passing, I always think about him a little extra on certain days of the year. It’s also the anniversary of my ex-husband’s death. Ditto. And my son-in-law is getting ready to deploy. If you run into any of us and we’re acting weird, be patient with us.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .My family. All of it. I thank God every night not only for my daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren, but for my parents, my sister, brother-in-law, and brother. My nieces and nephew, their spouses and children. Aunts. Uncles. Cousins. In-laws (my own ex-family, my sort-of family from long ago, and my daughter’s in-laws). It’s a large, sprawling network filled with interesting and diverse people. I feel blessed to be a part of it all.
~~~~~~~~~~
From the kitchen. . .The lingering smell of garlic from the hamburgers we had for lunch. Dinner is usually a solitary affair. Tonight, I may live it up with frozen meat pies!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wearing. . .jeans and the t-shirt I got from the RWA conference in Orlando in 1997.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .a new chapter in my book. Wish I could stop and crochet for a while.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am going. . .to sleep early tonight. Stayed up way too late last night and am paying for it now.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. A very bad choice, considering what this week represents. Cried for a while this morning after reading one scene.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hoping. . .that we’ll find a way to deal with our usual first-of-the-month crisis. I’m getting weary.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hearing. . .am embarrassed to admit that there’s an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger, playing in the background. White noise for me while I work. I don’t choose silence and can’t write to music anymore, so TV it is. Why I’m leaving it on this show is a mystery.
~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .sleeping pets.
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .opening all the windows to air out the house after being closed up all winter.
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .going to write on the beach at least three days this week. It was an amazing success last time I went. Can’t wait to go again.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing. . .
Saw this guy on the roof at the Pioneer Festival the year we left Utah. I don’t know why he appeals to me so much. It’s his confidence, I think.
