Blog Challenge, Personal

And They Call it Puppy Love…

Heart 01Welcome to week #10 of my personal blog challenge. This week’s prompt is to discuss my first celebrity crush.

The first step is to figure out who my first celebrity crush was. I’ve had a few over the years, but who qualifies as my first? I might need to Google a few dates to figure that out. What year did the Beatles first show up on American radio, and years did Bonanza run on TV?

Oh, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking I’m going to talk about Little Joe Cartwright and Paul McCartney.

Wrong!

b3af73feb75af5b368f9e5e9338b4082I didn’t not have a mini-crush on Michael Landon. I mean, he was really cute! But my real crush from Bonanza was his older brother, Adam, played by Pernell Roberts. Adam was a class act. Always sort of measured and sensible, but also a bit dark and brooding. And that voice! I also had a little bit of a crush on Hoss, who I thought had the best personality of all the brothers. Dan Blocker has a special place in my heart to this day. I think Pernell may have been my first celebrity crush since IMDB says Bonanza ran from 1959 to 1973, that means he carved a spot in my heart a bit before I became aware of the Beatles around 1963.

mv5bmtuynje0nzazml5bml5banbnxkftztywmjqzmzu3-_v1_uy317_cr340214317_al_It wasn’t Paul who captured my heart when the Beatles took America by storm. It wasn’t John, either, or Ringo. My heart has always belonged to George. To this day, I can’t tell you just what it was about him that caught my eye–you know…besides the obvious. Was it because he was left-handed? I don’t think so. I don’t think I became aware of that until several years later. All I know is that if I’d ever found myself in a room with the Beatles, I probably would have fainted dead away. When I listen to my 11-year-old granddaughter talk about her celebrity crushes, I remember the way I felt anytime I saw George’s face on a record cover or on the TV. I get it, girlfriend I really, really do.

I could go on, but unburdening my soul and talking about every celebrity crush I’ve ever had is not the challenge here. You only get two because I honestly am not sure which of these two hunky celebrities first zinged his way into my heart.

What about you? Who was your first celebrity crush?
